A high-profile delegation from Sri Lanka recently met with
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in Dharamshala to foster stronger ties through spiritual and cultural exchange. The visit was organized under the auspices of the Semkay Ling: Pali and Sanskrit Cultural Exchange Centre.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Centre's Chairman, DSG, IBC, Dr. Damenda Porage. who is also the founder President of the Sri Lankan Tibetan Buddhist Brotherhood Society. The delegation was composed of 18 members, including a significant number of senior figures: 12 senior Buddhist monks, who included university professors, and 8 dedicated lay devotees.

During the auspicious meeting, the delegation presented His Holiness with several highly symbolic gifts. The Sri Lankan lay devotees offered a meticulously crafted, gem-studded replica of the Potala Palace, His Holiness’s former royal residence.
Furthermore, Venerable Beligala Amarasiri Maha Thero presented a replica of what is planned to be South Asia’s largest sitting Buddha, a massive statue that is currently under construction in Biyagama. This gesture underscored the enduring spiritual connection and mutual respect shared between the Sri Lankan and Tibetan Buddhist traditions. The exchange centered on promoting peace, religious harmony, and the revival and preservation of ancient Indian knowledge and Buddhist traditions.
