The Global Buddhist Summit 2026, recognized as the world's largest gathering of Buddhist leaders,

grandly commenced on January 24 at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India. This second edition is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs of the Government of India in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC).

Key Highlights

The event was graced by Hon. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Culture, as the Chief Guest, and Hon. Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, as the Special Guest. The proceedings began with traditional religious observances in both Pali and Sanskrit traditions.

  • Most Ven. Narampanawe Ananda Nayaka Thero: Anunayaka of the Asgiriya Chapter, Siyam Nikaya.
  • Most Ven. Dr. Waskaduwe Mahindawansa Mahanayake Thero: President of the International Federation of Buddhist Societies.
  • Most Ven. Dr. Madampagama Assaji Mahanayake Thero: Member of the Inter-religious Committee.
